2017 in Review
Dear CKC Community, As this year comes to an end, I wanted to take a moment to thank everyone from the kids to our families and community partners for helping to build a culture of kindness in our schools and communities! Your involvement and support helped set the path for us to do more than we could have ever imagined this 2017 year!
Bellevue Kindness Challenge With the partnership of PTA's, over 5500 kids were involved in this great effort to help those in need in our community and promote kindness within our schools!
Afterschool Enrichment- we created 3 new school relationships (9 in total) this year (John Stanford, Phantom Lake and Eton) enabling us to reach many more children and parents!
Family Service Day - Thank you families for helping to feed 300 people in our community who are homeless and hungry last weekend. Kids and parents together helped to make snack packs along with cards of encouragement which were then dropped off at local shelters in Bellevue, Redmond and Seattle.
Camps - This year we involved teens in the leadership of our camp! Through service learning which included daily reflection and mindfulness, kids deeply understood the impact they were making, their feelings and that of others. Kids were inspired to do more good and we were inspired by them! We also had the privilege of partnering with the Bellevue School District for the 3rd year, highlighting social emotional learning with some of the most vulnerable members of our community and helping them to lead positive and productive lives.
It really does take a village to create positive change. We have come a long way since 2012 when we started with just 16 kids at our camp, and it is because of the support of parents and our community. All of us want to live, work and go to school in a place where people help one another and strive for the best for not only ourselves but for also for the people, animals and environment which surrounds us. Invite your neighbors, friends and colleagues to hop on the kindness train and it is bound to happen. Thank you for being apart of this journey! Gratefully, Dhaarmika Coelho, Founder
